  • 2 medium onions (sliced)
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast (optional)
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 green hot chili pepper (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon parsley (chopped or cilantro)
  • 3 tablespoons oil (for frying; coconut oil recommended)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions thinly using a sharp knife or mandoline and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together chickpea flour, nutritional yeast (if using), ground cumin, salt, ground turmeric, water, lime juice, green chili pepper, and parsley until smooth and medium-thick.
  3. Add sliced onions to the batter and mix well to ensure they are evenly coated.
  4. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  5. Drop small portions of the batter-coated onions into the hot oil, frying about four fritters at a time for 2-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Serve warm.
