  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg until warm but not boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Add half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheese on top of the potatoes.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Dot the top with butter pieces and cover with foil.
  7. Bake covered for 40 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
